Taller Dog: News & Muse

Darcie's News

Happy Leap Day!

I have stories to tell. Boy, do I have stories to tell. I am writing
them, little by little. Costa Rica was fantastic. I'll be sending you
four photos of me holding a howler monkey. She took a special liking
to me. I'm working on how to get one or two slide shows to you, and
up on the websites.

One thing you can do, now, is go to
http://www.groupietunes.com/artists/DarcieDeaville

You can buy ring tones from DD Plays the Fiddle and Sings. What I
have noticed, traveling to several countries is that most everyone
has narrowed down to two choices: Some dumb computer melody, or, back
to the old-fashioned telephone ring. Of course, this is just my
opinion, but having something truly musical would not only add to
nicer sounds in our overcrowded sonic world, but you would know it
was YOUR phone ringing!
I have two favorites: Cotton Eyed Joe/Red River Jig, (it has that
old familiar fiddle intro... four potatoes for you old time musicians
out there). It's just got that fiddle sound. The other was a surprise
to me. The 28th of January. It's a guitar/fiddle duet that
surprisingly comes right out at you. I don't know how to explain it
why, but I like it. There are other choices, too. You could be the
first on your block....

You can listen before you buy. It's $2.49. It's worth a try, for
that, isn't it? I have no idea yet how this all works in cyber
world, and I know there are other competitors with the same choices,
but this one came up as the most user friendly.
I'd love feedback (always do anyway). Stories and photos are on their
way.

LET'S LEAP TODAY!

Cheers,
Darcie
Darcie Deaville - Happy leap Day! (Feb 29, 2008)
Tuesday, July 17 Darcie Deaville and her band will play songs from her new CD, "Livin' on the Lucky Side" on the Taller Dog Music label. This free show at the Cactus Cafe starts at 8 pm. Also sharing the stage with her own CD release party will be Jane Gillman, a long time friend and musical collaborator. In the 1990's Darcie and Jane put out a CD together and toured the US and many other countries.

Live performances in Austin have been rare occurrences for Darcie in the past three years. Best known for her fiery fiddling and singing, Darcie spent the first thee months of 2007 playing guitar with Toni Price. Darcie has always kept singing, writing, and playing her songs with a band although Austinites know her better as a backup player for Ray Wylie Hubbard and others. Many of Darcie's performances are in theatre and have kept her in places like Austria, Italy, Prague, New York City. Next month, in August of 2007, Darcie will be playing the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
"Livin' on the Lucky Side" is the theme for Deaville's CD and is heartfelt. In May of 2006 Darcie fell off a ladder and sustained head injuries that have led to other health issues. She has never been one to keep still. Darcie has had a numer of other close calls, keeping her thankful and lucky. Currently recovering from foot surgery, the Cactus will be her first gig walking on both feet. The 17th of July is the time to catch her only public performance before leaving for New York City on the 22nd of July, and then on to Edinburgh. Darcie will be back home in Austin at the end of August.
CD's will be available at the show. There is no cover charge. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the band.

www.darciedeaville.com - Darcie Deaville's CD Release Party at the Cactus Cafe Tues July 17 (Jul 10, 2007)
OK... FIRST AND FOREMOST... THE CD RELEASE CELEBRATION THIS COMING TUESDAY JULY 17 AT THE CACTUS CAFE, here in Austin. MORE THAN A CD RELEASE PARTY, IT'S KIND OF MY BIRTHDAY PARTY. AND, AN OVERSEAS SEND OFF for both Jane and I. You can bring snacks pot luck style ..even... if you want. Come early! We'll all be doing sound checks starting at 7. You could come at 8 and socialize and eat chips and salsa and choose from the Cactus' fine choice of beverages. We've got a bunch of fantastic musicians playing with us. Jack Saunders is coming in from Houston to play electric guitar and other things, Scott Martin on lap steel coming in from Marble Falls, THREE drummer/percussionists! Rich White, Rick Richards, Merel Bregante. Kyle Clayton on bass, And Jane and me. Hope I'm not forgetting anyone.

It starts at 8:30 and Jane Gillman will play a set, and then I will play a set. At the end I'm sure we'll do a couple together.
It really is a celebration for both of us, because of how different our lives have been in the past few years.

I'm just happy I'm walking again, after all this surgery business. However slowly and carefully I need to. (Which is obviously something I needed to learn literally and figuratively in my life anyway).

SO, THIS CACTUS SHOW IS A FREE SHOW. WE WANT ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY WHO IS INTERESTED IN THE MUSIC AND FRIENDSHIP. And we know everyone who comes will be as generous as they can be with donations to pay the band. And buy CD's, too, if possible. BUT REALLY, THIS IS A PARTY. PLEASE COME!
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!!

If you want to get a taste of the music, Jane and I did an Aielli Unleashed last Wednesday, with Kyle and Rich on bass and drums. You can hear that here:

SECONDMOST...

On July 22 (the day after my birthday) I leave for NYC to rehearse yet another Woody Guthrie play. Like the one I did for three months in 2006 in Austria, it's a four piece ensemble of music and theatre. Unlike the last one, it's re-written substantially. It's set in a modern time with a newer wring style. It's still telling the story of Woody and depression times. I'm a multi-chatacter... for instance I'm some kind of ghostly Tom Joad who comes and goes throughout. And Woody's pal Lefty Lou. We will be performing "WOODYSEZ" at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland for about a month. I'll be home at the end of August.

If you'd like to check it out, go to http://www.woodysez.com

I actually know a couple of people who will be in Scotland the same time as I will (July 28-Aug 27). One of them is Jane Gillman! She's got a couple of shows in that first week. So, I never get too surprised who I might see anywhere in the world.

I mainly hope I'll see as many of you as possible this Tuesday, July 17!

Darcie

P.S. on http://www.darciedeaville.com, along the bottom of the home page, is a link called "news". I'll post stories when I can.
And on http://www.tallerdog.com, there's also a "news" to click on. That often has a different kind of news, with a more musical side to a story. And, "music tips" is another ongoing set of pieces having to do with anyone who plays a little music.

P.P.S. THANK YOU to all the people who went right to CD Baby and bought "Livin' on the Lucky Side". It may say out of stock there now, but the CD's are on their way, so not really. And you can always contact me through either website. I'll have a shopping cart soon, but you can still use PayPALsecurely and the old fashioned check system. The introductory price is still in effect for a little bit longer.
